I'm fundraising for Childhood Eye Cancer Trust

Last year, I was lucky enough to marry Ryu, my favourite person in the world; we've been together for a decade now.


At one years old, Ryu was diagnosed with and treated for retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer that primarily affects children under the age of five. He lost his left eye, and has worn a prosthetic since; he has lovely, kind brown eyes.

While I'm sure he has experienced various challenges as a result, when he speaks of his retinoblastoma, Ryu largely refers to how lucky he's been to have received the treatment and support he has.

As such, we're taking part in Childhood Eye Cancer Trust's virtual Hospital to Hospital challenge, along with our friend James, to raise funds for the charity. Between the three of us, we'll be covering the distance of 244 miles between 15th August to 15th September – the distance of a round trip between The Royal London Hospital and Birmingham Women's and Children's Hospital, the only two hospitals in the UK treating retinoblastoma (Rb).

Every mile covered and every pound raised will help to continue to deliver lifelong support to those who need it and drive early diagnosis and understanding, so that children like Ryu can go on to live healthy, happy lives.
